Using "Thank You" to End Fighting
When children fight, it’s usually about a toy, territory or just for fun. I was teaching adult education on a high college campus where there was never smoking allowed. I felt assaulted and mad and a small helpless, also, I guess. I stopped. I pulled away and clenched my teeth during the entire first half of the class as I carried that rage and helplessness with me in my bones and sinew. Accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative and let go of Mister In-between, tra-la-la.
